The purpose of vocational assessment is to provide individuals with guidance in order to help them identify well-suited and fulfilling careers using established career planning tools.

Career assessment and counselling is helpful for individuals in a period of career planning, exploration, or transition who are interested in identifying specific occupations related to personal interests, preferred work tasks and environments and strategies for successful career development and change.

Types of assessments

The assessment used will help provide individuals with increased awareness of their personality, motivations, and preferences related to career development. Specifically, individuals’ personal strengths and areas for development, working styles, and career interests will be explored.

Results of this evaluation will provide individuals with personalized insight about their preferred work tasks and environments, strategies for improving job satisfaction, and identification of best and least suited occupations according to their current interests and preferences.

Additional assessments

In addition to the standard assessments provided, clients may also choose to receive feedback related to their communication, decision-making, stress management, and/or conflict styles.

What are the steps involved in a vocational assessment ?

Upon registering for a vocational assessment, you will provide your counsellor with information about your educational and/or career history in addition to information about your current interests and future aspirations. Your counsellor will then provide you with a link to an online assessment, which you will complete on your own time. After the assessment is complete, your counsellor will provide you with a detailed report ahead of a live feedback session.

During the feedback session, your counsellor will review your report with you and provide personalized feedback, recommendations, and resources according to your needs. This meeting will last approximately a half hour.

Clients may continue career or general counselling sessions as needed following the completion of the vocational assessment process. If desired, your counsellor can help create and implement a plan for future sessions based on identified needs or areas for exploration.
