Types of assessments

  • Assessment of ADHD in adults (Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder)
  • Neuropsychological assessment will help in finding out if some difficulties are linked to an ADHD diagnosis or due to another cause. The diagnosis will result in personalized recommendations.
  • Memory problems in adults
  • By exploring the history and characteristics of the difficulties, the neuropsychological assessment will assess the nature of the problems and eliminate other possible causes (anxiety, depression, fatigue, attention deficit, etc.).
  • Assessment of impact on traumatic brain injury (TBI) or Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) or stroke in adults
  • Neuropsychological assessment will help qualify and quantify the impact of TBI, CVA or a stroke on cognitive and other areas of functioning, leading to a better understanding and tailored recommendations.
  • Cognitive disorders originating from a psychiatric or medical condition in adults (multiple sclerosis, tumor, Parkinson’s disease, thyroid disorder, etc.)
  • Neuropsychological assessment will help qualify and quantify different disorders originating from psychiatric or medical causes, to give a diagnosis and provide recommendations according to the observed cognitive profile, the goal being to improve the person’s wellbeing and daily functioning.
  • Cognitive difficulties linked to aging (Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, etc.)
  • Neuropsychological assessment will aim to differentiate difficulties linked to normal aging from those linked to a neurodegenerative disorder. Neuropsychological assessments

What are the steps involved in a neuropsychological assessment?

It will require two sessions to complete the assessment :

  • During the first session, which lasts one whole day, your neuropsychologist will administer different tests in order to measure certain cognitive aspects. After the evaluation, your neuropsychologist will analyse the results and produce a detailed report. This step may take a few weeks.
  • During the second session, your neuropsychologist will explain the results to you. She will provide recommendations and will suggest resources according to your needs. The goal is to offer different options and to guide you through your options. This session may last for a few hours.

Why have a neuropsychological assessment? It allows us :

  • To determine the cause of some neuropsychological disorders which affect wellbeing
  • To give or clarify a diagnosis
  • To obtain a detailed report on a person’s neuropsychological profile
  • To obtain tools and recommendations which can help the client and their family
  • To orient the client toward adapted services
  • To guide future interventions (professional environment, physicians, etc.)

If your insurance provider does not cover the cost of neuropsychological evaluations, the cost of the assessment can be considered as a medical expense, and therefore deductible on your income tax return.
