Legal and ethical aspects linked to telepsychotherapy
Psyschologists at PsyMontreal are members of l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec and conform to a strict code of ethics. The procedures that we follow in telepsychotherapy also conform to the most recent laws and federal guidelines. PsyMontréal presently offers the service of telepsychotherapy only in Québec.
Safety and privacy are primordial are crucial elements for PsyMontréal. We therefore take measures in order to ensure that our videoconferences are executed in a completely safe manner, in secure therapeutical environments, and we do not record the sessions.
We preserve the privacy of the information that you communicate during your telepsychotherapy sessions, unless we have your written consent to communicate it to a third party, or their communication is required by law (ex., in a case of imminent danger to yourself or others) or by court.
The video sessions are not recorded, but your psychologist takes notes for each session, and stores them in your folder, which is kept in a safe place, in a locked filing cabinet. These notes are helpful to document the evolution of your therapy and are required by l’Ordre des psychologues du Québec. For more info on this subject, you can call OPQ at 514 738-1223.
We preserve the privacy of your identification information (ex., information necessary to communicate with you, emergency information, homework, therapy notes and the results of tests taken in order to monitor therapy evolution). Homework and raw form data are printed and kept in a safe place, in your confidential folder. Electronic versions of these documents are deleted in complete privacy.
We do everything we can to ensure safety and privacy of your personal information. To do this, we use the most recent encryption technology offered by Microsoft Lync.
